Facilities and Services

The Genetic Epidemiology Research Institute (GERI) has research laboratories and offices at several locations around the UC Irvine campus, reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of our institute.

Facilities

Administrative office:

  • Irvine Hall
1001 Health Sciences Road, Suite 222
    Irvine, CA 92697-3950
    Phone: 949-824-0306

Research facilities:

  • University Research Park
    100 Theory Drive, Suites 100, 101 and 250
    Irvine, CA 92697-3950
    Phone: 949-824-0306

GERI occupies 10,012 square feet of research space in these three suites. The facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art technology — including fiber-optic cabling — to provide connectivity to the university’s internet backbone. In addition, firewalls and an alarm system ensure the confidentiality and security of study participants’ medical records.

  • Sprague Hall
    240F Sprague Hall
    Irvine, CA  92697
    Phone: 949-824-3768

GERI’s advanced-technology laboratory in Sprague Hall allows our researchers to genotype large-scale population samples of cancer patient specimens. The laboratory provides state-of-the-art robotic sample preparation setups, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification and a DNA-sequencing apparatus. Using these efficient mutations screening techniques, researchers are able to screen large population samples for mutations in cancer-causing genes. This makes it possible to generate new data on genetic variations that would be useful in current research and future research designs.

Services

Biostatistics

A biostatistics team is available to assist clinical, epidemiologic and basic science investigators who are members of the institute. Consultations are available to help investigators with their study design and subsequent data analysis. They can also assist members in the linkage of their projects to other clinical, epidemiologic and laboratory data sources.
